Meet Yoon Seok-youl, President of South Korea
Yoon Suk-yeol is a South Korean lawyer, politician, and former public prosecutor who functioned as the Prosecutor General of South Korea under President Moon Jae-in from 2019 to 2021.
He studied at Seoul National University after being born in Seoul. Yoon played a crucial part in the conviction of former President Park Geun-hye for abuse of authority while serving as the head prosecutor of South Korea.
Yoon, a member of the conservative People Power Party, won the 2022 South Korean presidential election, defeating Democratic Party contender Lee Jae-Myung, and will take office on May 10, 2022.
Yoon began his legal career in 1994 as a prosecutor at the Daegu Public Prosecutor’s Office.
He was the chief of the Special Branch and the Central Investigation Department, which both looked into cases of corruption.
Despite severe opposition from Kim Dae-cabinet Jung’s bureaucrats, he arrested Assistant Commissioner Park Hui-won, who was involved in corruption, in 1999.
Yoon considers himself to be a conservative. Yoon has been labeled a conservative by Chung Doo-un, a former Conservative Member of Parliament.
Chin Jung-Kwon, a pro-Yoon political commentator, describes his political leanings as “libertarianism.”
Since 2012, Yoon has been married to Kim Kun-hee. Kim is the President of Covana Contents, an art exhibition firm.
