Good Friday is the Friday before Easter, and it is the day on which Christians commemorate Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. Good Friday has been commemorated as a day of grief, penance, and fasting from the early days of Christianity, a quality that is reflected in the German phrase Karfreitag (“Sorrowful Friday”). On April 15, 2022, Good Friday will be observed.
If you are a Christian, and you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Eternal Son of God who died for all of your sins, then Good Friday is one of the most mournful, serious, and yet holy days of the year for you. It is, after all, a day for observing rather than celebrating.
Steps
1. Pay a visit to your neighborhood church.
There is no liturgy on Good Friday for Roman Catholics, but there is frequently a service with Holy Communion. Pray in the Blessed Sacrament before the Lord. For Good Friday, the Holy Rosary is a particularly good prayer. Many churches, in addition to Holy Mass, may have Stations of the Cross, which you may like to visit.
2. Some Christian groups (both Catholic and non-Catholic) perform Passion Plays, which you may choose to attend, participate in, or even arrange.
If you’re entertaining visitors, you may serve afternoon tea with some ‘hot cross buns.’ These are sticky fruit buns with a cross-shaped cross of dough on top. You can have it plain or toasted.
3. On the other hand, some people observe a fast on Good Friday.
Some people don’t eat at all, while others consume only a small amount of food. If you’re still growing, eating lightly can be a good option.
4. If you don’t go to Mass at 3:00 p.m., stop what you’re doing and pray if you can.
At this moment, Jesus is said to have died on the cross.
5. Reflect on Jesus’ death throughout the day.
It’s the entire point of Good Friday.
