Good Friday commemorates The Passion, the biblical tale of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion at Calvary before Easter Sunday, when his resurrection is celebrated.
Although the exact date of Christ’s death is disputed, biblical historians generally believe that it occurred between 30-33AD on a Friday close or during Passover.
On what is now known as Maundy Thursday, Jesus shared the Last Supper with his followers, according to the Bible.
Judas Iscariot, one of his followers, betrayed him by revealing his position to Roman soldiers in exchange for 30 pieces of money.
The four canonical gospels of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, all close with a thorough narrative of Jesus’ arrest and death.
Christ is initially brought before the Sanhedrin, a Jewish judicial body, before being brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judaea.
Is it a Bank Holiday on April 15 for Good Friday?
Since Good Friday is celebrated in several countries across the world, it is a bank holiday for such countries. In India for instance, the bank holiday is slated for four days, starting from April 14 to April 17.
This is due to a number of festivals, including Ambedkar Jayanti, Good Friday, and Bohag Bihu, as well as one bank holiday on a Sunday.
