Monkeypox is known to be a rare disease that is been caused by having an infection from the monkeypox virus.
The disease is said to have originated from the Orthopoxvirus genus which includes the variola (smallpox) virus and one other known as the vaccinia virus.
As of 21 May, 13:00, 92 laboratory-confirmed cases, and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox with investigations ongoing. The cases were said to have begun in some oif the non-epidemic countries like the US, UK, Australia and several European countries as well.
People who have contracted the virus are said to have at least one of the following symptoms
- Headache
- Acute onset of fever (>38.5oC),
- Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes)
- Myalgia (muscle and body aches)
- Back pain
- Asthenia (profound weakness)
