Mark Gregory Clayton is an American retired professional football player who spent the majority of his career as a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, joining the team in 1983 and playing there until 1992. He concluded his tenure with the Green Bay Packers, where he only played one season in 1993.
Clayton played wide receiver at the University of Louisville between 1979 and 1982. As a senior, he had his best season, catching 53 passes for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns.
Clayton began his career on the bench in 1983, making six catches for 114 yards in inconsistent appearances during the season. In a 38-35 loss to the Buffalo Bills on October 9, he had his first highlight game; he had his first touchdown through the air: in the third quarter, he fired a 48-yard touchdown throw to Mark Duper. He’d grab a 14-yard throw from Dan Marino for his first receiving touchdown the next quarter.
In 1989, while playing 15 games, he had another 1,000-yard season, scoring nine times on 64 catches for 1,011 yards. In 1990, he played 10 games and had 32 receptions for 406 yards and three touchdowns, regressing to his lowest totals.
