Dan Pitcher was born on January 13, 1987, in Cortland, New York, to parents who were both teachers.
Pitcher was a quarterback at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, where he played for four years. The Raiders signed him in 2009 and he spent three years with them, missing one season due to injury and redshirting a second.
He then went to his hometown institution, SUNY Cortland, where he remained until 2011. He was a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which is the Division III equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, during his senior season.
In 2012, he joined the Red Dragons coaching staff as the wide receivers coach after his playing career at SUNY Cortland ended.
He was a scouting assistant for the Indianapolis Colts after one season at SUNY Cortland. In 2014, the Colts upgraded him to a pro scout.
